Commitment to Diversity in Physics:
Recruiting from under represented groups:
In addition to regular public talks, I hope to inspire the next generation of scientist via long-term consistent volunteering in the science classrooms of local K-12 classrooms.
Retention of women and minorities in physics:
A more complicated problem is ensuring that these groups not only feel welcome in academia but that they are allowed to excel. I feel strongly about openly discussing biases in STEM when teaching undergraduate courses, mentoring undergrad/graduate students, and in committee meetings when hiring or recruiting students.
